Are you an experienced Financial Controller or Finance Manager looking for a role where you can take genuine ownership of a finance function and have a real impact on business performance?
We are recruiting for a Financial Controller to join an established and growing international manufacturing organisation based in Warrington.
Reporting to the UK Managing Director and Group Finance, this is a highly visible position with responsibility for the day-to-day management of the UK finance function. You will lead a small finance team while working closely with senior management and colleagues across the wider international Group.
This is much more than simply producing the numbers. The successful individual will ensure management has accurate, timely and meaningful financial information to support decision-making, while continually strengthening processes, controls and relationships across the business.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the finance function, managing a team of two and overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, controls, working capital, payroll and year-end.
A key part of the role will be building strong relationships across the organisation, particularly with Sales, Customer Services, Purchasing, Stock Control and Warehouse teams, ensuring Finance is closely connected to the wider business and provides the information needed to support its continued growth.
Key Responsibilities:
*Take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function, providing leadership and direction to a small finance team.
*Deliver accurate and timely monthly financial information to Group Finance, including clear analysis and explanations of performance and variances against budget.
*Support the preparation of budgets and financial information for Group planning, monitoring costs and performance against agreed expectations.
*Build strong working relationships across various internal functions, ensuring Finance provides relevant information to support effective decision-making.
*Maintain and strengthen processes and financial controls across sales, purchasing, stock, cash, banking, insurance and budgets.
*Maintain oversight of debtors, creditors, banking and cash, ensuring appropriate processes and controls are operating effectively.
*Monitor customer rebate levels and ensure appropriate accruals are accurately reflected within the accounts.
*Ensure appropriate supplier checks and financial controls are in place to minimise financial and fraud risk.
*Take responsibility for monthly payroll and coordinate financial information relating to VAT, Corporation Tax and other statutory requirements.
*Manage the external audit process and provide the information required for the smooth preparation of year-end financial statements.
*Continually review the finance function, identifying opportunities to improve processes, reporting and controls to better support the wider business and its growth objectives.
Key Requirements:
*Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), qualified by experience or equivalent.
*Experience leading or taking significant responsibility for a finance function, ideally within manufacturing, distribution, wholesale or another product-led environment.
*Strong commercial acumen with the ability to interpret financial information, identify key trends and provide meaningful insight to support decision-making.
*Strong experience across management reporting, budgeting, forecasting and financial controls.
*Excellent Excel and analytical skills, with the ability to work confidently with financial data.
*A proactive, hands-on approach with excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
*Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the confidence to work with stakeholders at all levels, including senior management and international Group colleagues.
*The ability to work closely with operational teams, providing financial insight and helping the wider business understand financial performance.
*Adding Value through strong analysis, commercial thinking, relationship building and a proactive approach.
Why Apply?
This is an excellent opportunity to step into a high-impact Financial Controller position where you will have genuine ownership and visibility across the UK business.
You will work directly with senior leadership and Group Finance, lead a small team and have the opportunity to influence how the finance function supports the wider organisation.
For someone who enjoys being hands-on with the numbers while also building relationships, improving processes and helping management make informed decisions, this offers an excellent combination of technical finance and wider business involvement.
