Job Description:
Full job descriptionWe are seeking proactive and highly organised Part-Time / Full-Time Finance Assistant to support our finance team in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of financial processes.
The successful candidate will assist with accounts payable and receivable, data entry, reconciliations, financial reporting, and administrative tasks while contributing to the overall efficiency and integrity of the finance department. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day finance operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
Role and Responsibilities
*Manage the purchase ledger, including processing supplier invoices, payment runs and resolving supplier queries.
*Raise and manage sales invoices, ensuring timely and accurate billing.
*Manage customer accounts, including credit control and the collection of outstanding debts.
*Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice discrepancies promptly.
*Perform and maintain daily bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving any differences.
*Process employee expense claims and timesheets accurately and in a timely manner.
*Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records within the accounting system.
*Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journals and account reconciliations.
*Reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure financial accuracy.
*Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns and support statutory reporting requirements.
*Manage the monthly Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) reconciliation and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements.
*Assist with the preparation and submission of VAT returns and support statutory reporting requirements.
*Prepare financial reports, schedules and analysis to support the Finance Manager.
*Maintain the fixed asset register, ensuring additions, disposals and depreciation are accurately recorded.
*Provide administrative and operational support to the Finance Manager and the wider finance team.
*Maintain compliance with company financial policies, procedures and internal controls.
*Support the continuous improvement of finance processes and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency.
*Support the Finance Manager with the day-to-day running of the finance function.
*Maintain accurate filing and documentation of financial records in accordance with company procedures.
*Carry out additional tasks as required by the Finance Manager.
Essential:
*Previous experience in a Finance Assistant, Accounts Assistant or similar finance role.
*Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
*Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
*Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
*Good organisational and time management skills.
*Proactive with a positive attitude.
*Work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
*Comfortable working to deadlines.
*Eager to learn and develop professionally.
*Excellent communication and presentation skills both written and verbal.
*Ability to take initiative, work independently and as part of a team.
*Candidates must be eligible to live and work in the UK.
Desirable:
*Experience of 2-3 years in accounting.
*Experience using Microsoft Business Central.
*Worked within the trade industry and understands payment applications and self-billing.
*Proven bookkeeping experience.
*knowledge of accounting principles.
