Are you a passionate Mental Health professional with a strong safeguarding background who wants to make a genuine difference to the lives of vulnerable young people?
We are seeking an exceptional Mental Health & Wellbeing Lead / Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead to join a specialist SEMH school, where you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping a safe, nurturing, and trauma-informed environment for pupils with complex social, emotional and mental health needs.
Location: Tower Hamlets (School)
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Ongoing (whilst recruiting permanently)
Hourly Rate: £21.27 - £23.60ph
Working Hours: / Monday to Friday
This is a unique leadership opportunity combining strategic mental health provision with safeguarding responsibilities. Working closely with senior leaders, you will lead whole-school wellbeing initiatives, oversee targeted interventions, support students experiencing mental health challenges, and deputise for the Designated Safeguarding Lead when required.
Key responsibilities include:
*Leading the development of a trauma-informed and nurture-based wellbeing strategy.
*Managing and evaluating mental health interventions and support programmes.
*Supporting children and young people experiencing emotional dysregulation, trauma responses, and mental health crises.
*Acting as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, including managing referrals and child protection concerns.
*Working collaboratively with CAMHS, social care, local authorities, and external agencies.
*Delivering staff training on safeguarding, mental health, and trauma-informed practice.
*Supporting parents and carers with wellbeing and safeguarding guidance.
We’re looking for a dedicated professional who brings:
*Senior Mental Health Lead training (or equivalent).
*Advanced safeguarding qualifications and experience.
*A degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling, Nursing, Education, or a related field.
*Proven experience supporting children and young people with complex SEMH needs.
*Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, child protection processes, and trauma-informed practice.
*Exceptional communication, resilience, empathy, and crisis management skills.
