Full job descriptionLaboratory Technician
Lambourn Woodlands
Full Time Permanent
Salary: Dependent on experience
We are recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join our client based in Lambourn Woodlands.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a laboratory, science or quality control background who enjoys practical work and wants to develop their experience within a busy manufacturing environment.
Our client is a well-established, independent contract chemical manufacturer and toll blender. As the business continues to grow, they are looking for a reliable, organised and detail-focused Laboratory Technician to support the day-to-day activities of the laboratory and production operation.
The Role
Working as part of the laboratory team, you will be responsible for carrying out routine quality control and in-process testing, maintaining accurate laboratory and production records, and ensuring products meet the required specifications.
You will work closely with Production, Quality and customers, making this a varied role where accuracy, organisation and communication are equally important. This is a hands-on position within a manufacturing environment, so you’ll need to be comfortable managing competing priorities and working to production deadlines without compromising on quality or safety.
Key Responsibilities
*Carry out routine process QCl testing in accordance with approved test methods and procedures.
*Accurately record, check and report test results.
*Complete batch documentation and production records accurately and within required timescales.
*Prepare, review and issue Certificates of Analysis (CoAs).
*Respond professionally to routine customer enquiries relating to CoAs and product documentation.
*Prepare, label and replenish laboratory reagents and solutions.
*Clean, inspect and maintain laboratory glassware and equipment.
*Prepare product, batch and laboratory labels as required.
*Monitor laboratory consumables, PPE and other supplies, ensuring stock levels are maintained.
*Manage retained and expired samples in accordance with company procedures.
*Segregate and dispose of laboratory waste safely and correctly.
*Maintain high standards of laboratory housekeeping, cleanliness and organisation.
*Report equipment faults, stock shortages and safety concerns promptly.
*Follow all laboratory, health & safety and environmental procedures, including the correct use of PPE.
*Prioritise and manage multiple tasks to meet production and customer deadlines.
*Work closely with Production and Quality teams to support the smooth running of the manufacturing operation.
What We’re Looking For
*We’re looking for someone who is practical, reliable and highly accurate, with a genuine interest in laboratory QC work.
*You may already have experience as a Laboratory Technician, QC Technician, QC Analyst, Laboratory Assistant or similar, ideally within a manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical, food, environmental or other process-based environment.
*However, relevant laboratory experience is desirable rather than essential. The right attitude, attention to detail and willingness to learn are equally important.
You’ll ideally have:
*GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Mathematics and Science.
*Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
*The ability to follow written test methods, procedures and work instructions precisely.
*Good organisational and time-management skills.
*The ability to manage multiple priorities in a busy working environment.
*Good written and verbal communication skills.
*Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
*The ability to work independently while also being a strong team player.
*A professional and customer-focused approach.
*The ability to work efficiently to deadlines while maintaining quality standards.
*A willingness to learn new laboratory techniques, analytical methods and company procedures.
*A commitment to maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment.
Desirable Experience
*Previous experience within a laboratory or QC environment.
*Experience working within a manufacturing or production environment.
*Experience carrying out in-process quality control testing.
*Experience completing batch sheets or other manufacturing documentation.
*Experience preparing or issuing Certificates of Analysis.
*Experience preparing laboratory reagents and solutions.
*Experience using laboratory equipment and maintaining accurate records.
*Familiarity with analytical techniques or instrumentation such as:
*Gas Chromatography (GC)
*Particle Size Analysis (PSA)
*Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
*Basic understanding of laboratory health & safety procedures.
We’re looking for someone who is:
*Accurate – understands the importance of getting results and documentation right.
*Organised – able to manage several tasks and changing priorities.
*Reliable – takes responsibility for their work and follows procedures consistently.
*Practical – enjoys being hands-on and working within a manufacturing environment.
*Proactive – willing to identify issues and raise them rather than letting them become problems.
*Adaptable – comfortable working in a busy environment where priorities can change.
*A team player – works effectively with Laboratory, Production and Quality colleagues.
*Keen to learn – interested in developing their technical knowledge and laboratory skills.
What You’ll Get
*Full-time, permanent position
*Monday to Friday, day shift
*Competitive salary, dependent on experience
*Free on-site parking
*20 days’ holiday + Bank Holidays
*Pension scheme
*Opportunity to develop your laboratory and quality control experience within an established and growing manufacturing business
