SALARY: £21,199 Actual Annual Salary / £28,696 FTE + Benefits
LOCATION: Hedge End, Southampton, Hampshire
JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Permanent (Term Time Only)
WORKING HOURS: 32.60 hours per week, 38 weeks per year. Two days 8.15am to 3.10pm and three days 8.15am to 4.10pm, days to be agreed
JOB OVERVIEW
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to make a positive difference to young people while developing valuable classroom and school-based experience.
As a Cover Supervisor you will supervise classes during the absence of the regular teacher, deliver lively and engaging sessions from existing lesson plans, keep students on task and help maintain high standards of behaviour.
The Cover Supervisor will also support tutor registrations, assemblies, classroom activities, exam invigilation and general administration during quieter periods. You will work closely with teaching and support staff to help create a safe, purposeful and inclusive learning environment.
This Cover Supervisor role would suit someone who is confident with young people, able to communicate clearly and willing to learn new skills. Previous school experience is not essential, as comprehensive induction, mentoring and training will be provided.
DUTIES
Your duties as the Cover Supervisor include:
*Supervise Classes: Cover and supervise lessons across key stages when the regular class teacher is absent
*Deliver Prepared Work: Share the lesson objective, set work provided by the teacher and support students in understanding and completing tasks
*Manage Behaviour: Maintain classroom standards, promote positive behaviour and respond promptly to disruption or inattentiveness
*Support Tutor Time: Cover tutor registrations, share daily notices and support students in following school routines
*Supervise Assemblies: Escort students to assemblies and supervise them during assembly periods when required
*Record Attendance: Take lesson registers and ensure paperwork is returned to the appropriate location
*Communicate Issues: Alert teachers, tutors or year leaders to any problems, incidents or concerns arising during cover sessions
*Maintain Resources: Collect work, resources and textbooks at the end of lessons and ensure classrooms are left tidy
*Support School Operations: Assist with classroom support, technician support, exam invigilation and general administration when needed
*Contribute to Duties: Undertake supervision duties such as break or lunchtime duty and carry out other reasonable tasks linked to the post

*Confident working with young people in a secondary school environment
*Strong communication and interpersonal skills
*Able to manage classroom behaviour calmly, fairly and consistently
*Organised, reliable and able to follow prepared lesson plans and school procedures
*Willing to work as part of a team and learn new skills
*Able to maintain high expectations for students and support a positive learning environment
*Interested in education, student support or developing towards a future teaching career
*Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
