Join the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council as a Tree Officer within the Environmental Services team. This role is crucial for managing and protecting the Council’s tree stock, ensuring safety and supporting the growth of the borough’s tree cover.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Conduct Visual Tree Assessments (VTAs) to identify defects, health issues, structural concerns, and associated risks.
*Manage the Council’s tree stock in accordance with legislation, best practice guidance, and the Council’s Tree Management Protocol.
*Produce tree work specifications to BS3998 standards.
*Manage and monitor tree works contractors.
*Provide technical and professional arboricultural advice to colleagues, customers, and the Local Planning Authority.
*Respond to public, councillor, and stakeholder enquiries.
*Identify opportunities to increase and enhance tree cover throughout the borough.
*Lead and support other staff through training, work allocation, and quality assurance.
*Monitor service performance and quality standards.
*Assist in developing policies, procedures, action plans, and work programmes.
*Organise and chair meetings, focus groups, and working groups.
*Manage budgets and financial processes as required.
*Produce reports and recommendations for managers and elected members.
*Resolve customer complaints within agreed timescales.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Formal Arboricultural Qualification to Level 5 or above (or equivalent).
*Lantra Professional Tree Inspection (PTI) qualification.
*Strong experience in tree inspections and risk assessments.
*Extensive experience in identifying tree defects, poor structure, health issues, and associated risks.
*Experience creating work specifications to BS3998 standards.
*Experience managing arboricultural contractors.
*Experience providing arboricultural advice to a range of stakeholders, including planning services.
*Experience managing and developing staff within an arboricultural environment.
*Proven customer service experience dealing with the public and a range of stakeholders.
*Strong understanding of tree-related legislation, regulations, common law, statute law, and case law.
*Knowledge of best practice in tree management.
*Understanding of procurement, budget monitoring, and financial procedures.
*Knowledge of performance monitoring and quality assurance systems.
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Ability to communicate complex or sensitive information effectively.
*Strong decision-making and analytical problem-solving skills.
*Project management experience from initiation through to completion.
*Competent using Microsoft Office applications, databases, email, and presentation software.
