Full job descriptionOur client, a leading organisation within the defence, security and maritime sectors, is seeking a Senior Mechanical/Structural Engineer for a permanent position based at the Haslar Marine Technology Park in Gosport. The role involves delivering structural design and mechanical engineering projects for submarine propulsors and complex multi-material assemblies used in demanding environments.
Key Responsibilities:*Lead the design and analysis of mechanical components, structures and assemblies from concept through to testing and production
*Provide senior engineering expertise and sound technical judgement when solving complex engineering problems
*Plan and deliver technical work packages, collaborating with project management and multidisciplinary engineering teams
*Support the development of complex metallic and composite structures for maritime and defence applications
*Work with safety engineering and other functions to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, company and project-specific requirements
*Develop engineering capability by mentoring colleagues and sharing specialist knowledge across technical communities
*Apply effective governance and act as a peer or independent reviewer for suitable engineering programmes
*Identify hazards and promote safe working practices across projects and technical activities
Job Requirements:*Strong knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering, including design processes and manufacturing principles
*Experience designing structures to recognised maritime, defence or civil engineering standards
*Proficiency in CAD software, particularly Siemens NX or SolidWorks
*Experience designing both metallic and composite structures
*Competence in performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on complex structures and systems
*Thorough understanding of safety regulations and applicable regulatory requirements
*BEng in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience
*Eligibility to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance
Working Arrangements:*Permanent, full-time position working 37 hours per week
*Based at the Haslar Marine Technology Park in Gosport
*Minimum average site attendance of three days per week
