*Job Type: Full-time, Temporary Supply Position (with potential for permanent contract)

A beautiful primary school is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil with severe autism. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who has a deep understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and is committed to positively impacting the educational and social development of children with additional needs.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 1 pupil with severe autism, focusing on helping them access learning and engage in daily school activities.
*Adapt teaching activities and resources to meet the pupil’s individual needs and ensure their engagement and accessibility.
*Employ autism-friendly strategies to aid in communication, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
*Encourage the pupil’s independence and participation in classroom activities.
*Collaborate closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals to ensure consistent and effective support.
*Monitor and document the pupil’s progress, behaviour, and achievements.
*Assist with transitions throughout the school day and help maintain a structured and predictable environment.
*Uphold all safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of all pupils.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Proven experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
*Background in working within a primary school or similar educational setting.
*Strong understanding of the challenges and effective support strategies for severe autism.
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
*A calm, patient, and nurturing approach.
*Flexibility to adapt to the individual needs of the child.
*A strong commitment to promoting inclusion and positive outcomes for pupils with additional needs.
Desirable Experience:
*Experience with children who have complex SEN needs.
*Knowledge of sensory regulation strategies and visual support systems.
*Familiarity with EHCPs and the implementation of targeted support plans.
*Relevant SEN qualifications or training such as Team Teach, Positive Behaviour Support, or similar.
