Full job descriptionSenior Mechanical Estimator – £55,000–£70,000 + Bonus
CPI Selection is recruiting for an experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to join a well-established and growing mechanical building services contractor in the Oxfordshire area.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful, family-run business with a strong pipeline of projects across the residential, care, commercial and education sectors. You’ll become part of an established estimating team, working closely with senior management and playing a key role in securing profitable new projects.
The Role
As Senior Mechanical Estimator, you will manage tenders from initial enquiry through to submission and handover, producing accurate and commercially competitive estimates for design-and-build mechanical packages typically valued between £500k and £3m.
Projects cover a range of mechanical services including plumbing and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, sprinkler systems, dry risers, renewable technologies, BMS and mechanical controls.
Key Responsibilities
• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Prepare detailed estimates and material/labour take-offs
• Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Build competitive tender prices across labour, materials, plant and specialist packages
• Identify commercial risks, qualifications, exclusions and opportunities
• Explore value-engineering solutions
• Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors
• Attend tender meetings, site visits and clarification meetings where required
• Prepare professional tender submissions and supporting documentation
• Provide clear handovers to commercial and project delivery teams following successful awards
About You
• Approximately 5 years’ mechanical estimating experience
• Strong knowledge of mechanical building services and new-build construction
• Experience estimating design-and-build mechanical packages
• Confident interpreting drawings, specifications and technical tender information
• Good understanding of labour, material, plant and subcontractor costs
• Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines
• Confident communication and negotiation skills
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Experience with Trimble estimating software would be advantageous
Experience within housing developments, apartments, care homes, commercial buildings or education projects would be particularly beneficial.
