Job Description:
Full job descriptionWe are recruiting an experienced Interim Financial Controller for a broad European assignment based in Maidenhead. This full-time contract is expected to run for up to 18 months and offers a salary of £75,000–£85,000 per annum.
The opportunity
You will take day-to-day ownership of financial control across several European operations during an important period of change. Alongside maintaining robust reporting and compliance, you will help improve recently introduced business systems, support an orderly team transition and give leaders clear commercial insight.
Key responsibilities
• Lead month-end close, management reporting, controls and statutory activity across European entities.
• Coordinate audit, VAT, tax, payroll and other local compliance requirements with external advisers where needed.
• Own budgets, forecasts and cash-flow planning, translating financial information into practical recommendations.
• Review project accounting, revenue recognition, utilisation and margin performance within a project-led environment.
• Strengthen data quality, workflows and reporting across finance and connected business platforms.
• Guide and develop finance colleagues while working closely with regional and international stakeholders.
• Provide practical support on commercial, contractual and operational matters when required.
About you
You will bring significant experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Director or regional finance leader, ideally gained in professional services, consulting or another project-based organisation. You should have hands-on experience of European audit and statutory requirements, particularly in the UK and Germany, together with strong knowledge of reporting, cash flow, budgeting and financial controls.
You will be comfortable combining strategic advice with detailed delivery and operating with a high degree of independence. Experience of modern finance and reporting systems is important; Sage Intacct exposure would be helpful but is not essential. Professional accountancy qualifications are preferred.
Working arrangements
The role is based in Maidenhead and is suited to someone within a practical commuting distance. Standard hours are broadly 9am to 5pm, with flexibility around how work is organised and delivered.
