Job Description:
Full job descriptionYour new company
Hays Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Lancashire to recruit a dedicated and proactive Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a Year 1 male pupil with additional learning and sensory needs.
This rewarding role is ideal for a resilient, energetic, and nurturing individual who is passionate about supporting children with complex needs to access learning and achieve their potential.
Your new role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with a Year 1 pupil who follows the Cherry Curriculum and requires high levels of support throughout the school day. The pupil presents with Pica and therefore requires constant supervision to ensure their safety and wellbeing.
You will support the pupil both in and out of the classroom, helping them engage with personalised learning activities while promoting independence, communication, and positive social interactions.
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be active, vigilant, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment, including supporting the pupil during movement breaks, outdoor learning opportunities, and sensory-based activities.
What you’ll need to succeed
*Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 1 pupil.
*Deliver activities and interventions aligned to the Cherry Curriculum.
*Support the pupil’s educational, social, emotional, and physical development.
*Maintain a safe learning environment, particularly in relation to the pupil’s Pica needs.
*Build positive and trusting relationships with the pupil, staff, and parents/carers.
*Encourage engagement, communication, and independence throughout the school day.
*Implement behaviour support strategies and follow individual risk assessments and care plans.
*Work collaboratively with class teachers, SEND staff, and external professionals.
What you’ll get in return
*Experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
*A patient, calm, and nurturing approach.
*The ability to remain vigilant and responsive to safety concerns.
*Strong communication and teamwork skills.
*A positive attitude and willingness to adapt to the individual needs of the pupil.
*The physical capability to remain active and engaged throughout the school day.
*Experience supporting pupils following a specialist or highly differentiated curriculum is desirable.
*Team Teach, MAPA, or similar training would be advantageous but is not essential.
