Vacancy InformationThis role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

In addition to the salary shown above, this role includes a £2,400 per annum Tool Allowance and a £4,000 per annum Market Supplement .
This position operates on a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern and attracts a 20% unsocial hours/shift allowance . Including these allowances, the starting salary for this role is £49,279.89 per annum .

Skills & ExperienceJob Role:
As a Multiskilled Vehicle Technician , you’ll play a vital role in keeping the vehicles and specialist police equipment which include ANPR, CCTV and communication equipment that support Surrey & Sussex Police operational, safe and ready to respond. Working within our Joint Transport Service, you’ll be responsible for the inspection, servicing, diagnosis and repair of a diverse fleet, including motorcycles, cars, light and medium commercial vehicles, and specialist operational vehicles.
This is a varied and technically rewarding role where no two days are the same. You’ll work on a wide range of vehicle technologies, from traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles through to Hybrid, Battery Electric (BEV), Hydrogen and other Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs). You’ll use the latest diagnostic equipment to identify faults, carry out mechanical and electrical repairs, and ensure every vehicle meets the highest standards of safety, reliability and performance.
Your responsibilities will include:
*Diagnosing faults and carrying out servicing, inspections, maintenance and repairs across our diverse fleet which include vehicle borne police specialist systems such as ANPR, CCTV & communication systems .
*Using manufacturer-approved and computer-based diagnostic equipment to identify and rectify mechanical and electrical faults.
*Maintaining and repairing emergency lighting, warning systems and specialist power management equipment fitted to operational vehicles.
*Supporting the transition to greener technologies by maintaining Hybrid, Electric and Hydrogen-powered vehicles.
*Decommissioning vehicles by safely removing specialist emergency equipment prior to disposal.
*Maintaining the highest standards of workshop safety, ensuring Health & Safety procedures are always followed and contributing to a safe, clean and professional working environment.
