IPS Group is working closely with one of the best names in the insurance market to support them with the recruitment of their Regional Underwriting Manager. This is a key position which holds the 2nd highest underwriting authority 2nd only to their Chief Underwriting Officer.This is one of the most influential underwriting positions in the UK regional market.

As Regional Underwriting Manager, you’ll be the highest technical underwriting authority across the region outside of the central technical function. Acting as the key link between branch underwriting leadership and the wider business, you’ll play a pivotal role in helping regional teams win, retain and grow major client relationships while driving technical excellence and underwriting performance.

This is far more than a referral role. You’ll be the person senior underwriting leaders turn to when they need solutions for complex risks, challenging placements and strategic opportunities. Combining technical expertise with strong commercial judgement, you’ll help branches trade confidently, support growth ambitions and ensure underwriting standards remain industry-leading.
For ambitious underwriting professionals, this represents a genuine stepping stone towards future Chief Underwriting Officer, Technical Director and executive underwriting leadership positions.

You’ll work closely with Branch Underwriting Managers, regional leadership teams, brokers and major clients, providing guidance on some of the most complex and highest-profile opportunities in the portfolio.

With authority levels stretching into the hundreds of millions, you’ll influence strategic underwriting decisions across large and complex commercial risks while helping shape underwriting philosophy, capability and culture across the region.

Success in this role requires someone who can balance technical excellence with commercial pragmatism. You’ll need to be visible in the market, comfortable engaging with senior brokers and customers, and capable of finding solutions that enable growth whilst maintaining underwriting discipline.
Key Responsibilities*Act as the senior regional authority for complex underwriting referrals and technical decision-making.
*Support Branch Underwriting Managers in structuring solutions for challenging and high-value risks.
*Drive underwriting standards, governance and technical excellence across the region.
*Lead the development, coaching and technical capability of underwriting teams.
*Influence regional underwriting strategy and ensure alignment with wider business objectives.
*Support major tenders, strategic deals and complex client opportunities.
*Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients and key market stakeholders.
*Analyse performance data and identify opportunities to improve underwriting effectiveness and reduce referral dependency.
*Champion profitable growth while balancing risk appetite, customer outcomes and commercial performance.

You’ll bring:*Extensive commercial underwriting experience gained within the UK insurance market.
*Strong Property and Casualty underwriting expertise across large and complex risks.
*Exposure to handling or influencing risks with values in the hundreds of millions.
*Experience supporting programme placements and complex casualty structures.
*A proven ability to make sound technical decisions in high-value and high-profile situations.
*Experience coaching, mentoring and influencing senior underwriting professionals.
*Strong broker and client relationship management skills.
*The credibility and confidence to operate as a senior technical leader within a matrix organisation.
*ACII qualification or equivalent professional standing.
