Full job descriptionQuality Manager - MMIC
Glasgow | Full-Time, Permanent | £47,000 - £63,000
About the Role
CPI is seeking an experienced Quality Manager to join the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC), providing quality leadership within a unique environment that bridges the gap between innovation, development, and GMP manufacturing.
Unlike traditional commercial manufacturing facilities, MMIC operates at the leading edge of pharmaceutical development, helping organisations develop and manufacture the next generation of medicines, including oligonucleotides, peptides, and emerging therapeutic modalities. This means working in environments where the answer isn’t always predefined, and where quality professionals must balance regulatory compliance with innovation and scientific progress.
We’re looking for a quality leader who is comfortable operating in the grey areas of pharmaceutical development, making pragmatic quality decisions, influencing site leadership, and helping shape quality frameworks appropriate to the stage of development while maintaining cGMP compliance.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced quality professional seeking broader responsibility, exposure to innovative manufacturing programmes, and the chance to play a key role in developing the future of pharmaceutical manufacturing in the UK.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Quality Leadership & Site Support
*Lead all quality activities within CPI’s MMIC facility.
*Act as a key member of the site leadership team, providing authoritative quality guidance and decision-making.
*Support operational teams in determining appropriate GMP standards and controls for innovative and development-stage activities.
Quality Management System (QMS) & Pharmaceutical Quality System (PQS)
*Develop, manage, and continually improve the site’s Quality Management System and Pharmaceutical Quality System.
*Ensure compliance with applicable GMP requirements, Data Integrity expectations, and corporate quality standards.
*Drive monitoring and improvement of KPIs, metrics, governance, and quality performance.
*Lead quality system process mapping, improvement initiatives, and simplification activities to reduce human error and improve compliance.
Quality Operations & Compliance
*Provide expert guidance on GMP compliance, quality incidents, deviations, investigations, change control, and remediation plans.
*Lead investigations relating to quality incidents and compliance concerns.
*Support qualification, validation, and operational readiness activities as the facility continues to grow.
Audits & Regulatory Readiness
*Lead and host customer, external, and regulatory audits.
*Support the successful delivery of CPI’s internal audit programme.
*Ensure audit findings are addressed effectively and closed within agreed timelines.
*Maintain inspection readiness and promote a culture of continuous compliance.
People Leadership
*Lead, coach, and develop a growing quality team.
*Manage approximately five direct reports across QA and QC activities, with team growth expected as programmes expand.
*Create a positive, supportive environment following a period of organisational change.
Cross-CPI Quality Collaboration
*Work closely with other Quality Managers across CPI to support organisation-wide quality initiatives.
*Contribute to quality strategy, governance, and best practice across multiple technology centres.
About You
You are an experienced quality professional with a strong GMP background and the confidence to operate in innovative, development-focused manufacturing environments.
You’ll bring:
*Significant experience within a senior quality role in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment.
*Strong understanding of GMP, Data Integrity, quality risk management, and pharmaceutical quality systems.
*Experience leading audits, compliance activities, investigations, and quality improvement initiatives.
*Experience managing and developing quality teams.
Most importantly, you’ll be:
*Pragmatic and solutions-focused.
*Comfortable making quality decisions in evolving environments.
*Positive, approachable, and supportive.
*Able to balance innovation with compliance.
*A strong advocate for quality who can influence without creating unnecessary barriers.
Highly Desirable Experience
*GMP manufacturing within a CDMO, clinical manufacturing, or development-focused environment.
*Experience supporting early-phase or clinical manufacturing programmes.
*Oligonucleotide, peptide, biologics, or advanced therapeutic manufacturing.
*Validation and qualification activities from a quality perspective.
*Exposure to QP training or progression towards Qualified Person status.
Why Join CPI?
*Play a key role in one of the UK’s most innovative pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.
*Work at the intersection of innovation and GMP manufacturing.
*Gain exposure to a broad range of quality, operational, development, and regulatory activities.
The Opportunity
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced GMP quality professional looking to step into a broader and more influential role. You’ll have the chance to shape quality systems, lead a team, influence site strategy, and support the development of innovative medicines in an environment where quality is genuinely at the heart of everything, we do.
