A genuine No.1 finance role combining strong financial control with commercial business partnering and the opportunity to help shape the future of a growing business.
We’re working with a successful, growing business that has consistently delivered year-on-year growth and is now looking for a Head of Finance to take ownership of the finance function and become a key member of the senior leadership team.
Reporting directly to the Directors, you’ll lead and develop the finance team and take responsibility for the quality, accuracy and insight coming from finance.
You’ll have a strong grounding in financial control, reporting and management information, but this role is about much more than producing the numbers. You’ll be expected to understand what the numbers are telling you, business partner with the Directors and wider leadership team, challenge performance and provide advice and recommendations that help shape future decisions.
You’ll play an important role in planning for the future, contributing to growth plans, strategy, budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling, whilst ensuring the underlying finance function remains robust and well controlled.
What You’ll Get Involved In*Own the finance function and act as a key finance business partner and adviser to the Directors.
*Lead, manage and develop a finance team, creating a high-performing and supportive function.
*Maintain strong financial control across the business, ensuring accurate, timely and robust reporting.
*Own the month-end process, management accounts and wider financial reporting.
*Produce high-quality Board packs with meaningful analysis, commentary and insight, not simply a set of numbers.
*Business partner with the Directors and operational teams to understand performance, identify issues and help turn financial insight into commercial decisions.
*Explain financial performance clearly, identifying trends, risks, opportunities and areas requiring attention.
*Lead the budgeting, forecasting and financial planning process.
*Build and maintain financial models to support decision-making, investment and growth plans.
*Work closely with the Directors on growth opportunities, strategy and future plans, providing financial advice, constructive challenge and recommendations.
*Be commercially minded and proactively make suggestions around profitability, margins, cash generation, investment and business performance.
*Partner with operational and commercial teams to understand the drivers of performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
*Consolidate multiple entities and provide robust group-level reporting.
*Review and improve finance systems, processes and reporting as the business scales.
*Explore how AI, automation and technology can improve the efficiency and capability of the finance function.
*Get involved in wider strategic and commercial projects as the business continues to grow.
What We’re Looking ForYou’ll be a qualified accountant with a strong technical grounding in financial control and reporting, combined with the commercial awareness and communication skills to operate as a genuine business partner to the Directors and wider business.
We’re looking for someone who is comfortable looking backwards at performance and forwards at opportunity.
You could be an established Head of Finance looking for a broader commercial role, or a Financial Controller ready to take the next step into a position with greater influence and responsibility.
We’re particularly interested in people who have:
*Strong financial control and financial reporting experience.
*Experience producing Board-level reporting, analysis and commentary.
*Proven experience managing, developing and motivating a finance team.
*Strong budgeting, forecasting, planning and financial modelling experience.
*A proven track record of business partnering with senior stakeholders and operational teams.
*The commercial mindset to interpret financial information and turn it into recommendations and actions.
*Experience working closely with Directors, owners or senior leadership teams.
*The confidence to challenge constructively, ask the right questions and offer solutions, rather than simply report what has happened.
*Experience consolidating multiple entities.
*A hands-on approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced SME environment.
*A genuine interest in improving systems, processes, automation and the use of AI.
*Experience in manufacturing, distribution, logistics, retail or a similar operational environment.
European or international experience would be a bonus, but isn’t essential.
Why This Role? This is a broad, influential Head of Finance role for someone who wants to be much more than the person responsible for producing the numbers.
You’ll have direct access to the Directors, lead an established finance team and act as a genuine business partner to the wider leadership team.
