Hands on Health & Safety in an Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Environment
Up to £58,000 + bonus & excellent benefits | Permanent | Site-based

A leading and technically advanced manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join its Gloucester operation.

This is a highly visible, hands-on H&S role supporting a complex manufacturing environment, with the opportunity to make a genuine impact on site safety, compliance and culture.

Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety, Environment & Energy, you will work closely with operational leaders and the wider HSEE team, acting as the key point of contact for day-to-day health and safety matters across the site.

The Role

You will take ownership of the tactical delivery of Health & Safety across the facility, ensuring robust systems, controls and processes are in place and continually improved.

Key responsibilities will include:

* Supporting the development and implementation of H&S strategies, systems, procedures and policies
* Providing hands-on H&S support to operational managers across the factory floor
* Ensuring compliance with UK H&S legislation, regulatory requirements and industry standards
* Managing and continuously improving the site’s H&S Management System, with a focus on maintaining ISO 45001
* Conducting risk assessments, hazard analyses, inspections and compliance audits
* Identifying and controlling physical, chemical, ergonomic and other workplace hazards
* Leading investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses, establishing root causes and implementing corrective actions
* Delivering H&S training, toolbox talks, safety briefings and awareness programmes
* Managing emergency preparedness, drills and response procedures
* Developing and leading the site’s Health & Safety Committee and employee engagement initiatives
* Driving behavioural safety and developing a strong, proactive safety culture
* Monitoring H&S performance through KPIs, leading indicators and regular reporting
* Working collaboratively with suppliers, contractors, managers and employees to continuously improve site standards

What we’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced H&S professional from a complex manufacturing environment who is comfortable being highly visible on the factory floor and influencing stakeholders at all levels.

You’ll ideally bring:
*Significant Health & Safety experience within a high-risk manufacturing environment
*Strong practical knowledge of COSHH, DSEAR and PUWER
*NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent qualification
*Experience of H&S Management Systems and ISO 45001
*Strong risk assessment, auditing and incident investigation experience
*Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
*The confidence to challenge, influence and coach operational teams
*The ability to work autonomously while also operating effectively as part of a wider HSEE function
Why This Role?

This is an excellent opportunity for an established H&S professional who wants to move beyond simply maintaining compliance and play a key role in shaping safety culture and driving continuous improvement across a significant manufacturing operation.

You’ll have genuine visibility across the site, direct access to operational leadership and the opportunity to influence how H&S is managed at both a tactical and strategic level.
