Job Description:
Full job descriptionFinancial Adviser – Succession Opportunity with Route to Ownership
Location: Derby, Derbyshire
Salary: Up to £80,000 basic, with earning potential of circa £100,000 + share options, hybrid working
Take over an established client bank from a retiring senior adviser, grow it as your own, and buy into the business on preferential terms.
Most adviser roles offer a salary and a client list. This one offers a future stake in the firm.
We’re working with a well-established, owner-managed, independent Chartered financial planning firm based in Derby. One of the senior advisers is stepping back from the practice and their portfolio is being divided between a new generation of advisers. The firm has a clear long-term plan: grow the advisory team over the next four to five years and give that team the opportunity to buy the senior partners out of the business at a discounted rate.
This is a genuine succession role for an adviser who wants to build something, not just service a book.
Why this role?
*An established client bank from day one. You’ll take on circa 80 clients, each with a minimum of £250,000 under advice, handed over from a senior adviser who is stepping back.
*Real room to grow. The existing relationships have strong untapped planning opportunities, and you’ll have the capacity and backing to take on new clients and build the portfolio further.
*Equity, not just earnings. Share options are available, with the opportunity to buy shares at a discounted rate.
*A defined route to ownership. The firm’s stated aim is for the advisory team to buy out the senior partners, at a discount, over the next four to five years.
*Strong earning potential. A basic salary of up to £80,000, with realistic total earnings of circa £100,000.
*Truly independent, whole of market. No restricted panel and no in-house funds. You recommend what is right for each client.
*Chartered standards and proper support. A structured Training & Competence framework, Investment Committee oversight and administration support, in a firm that takes quality and Consumer Duty seriously.
*Owner-managed, not corporate. Direct access to the decision-makers, with no consolidator targets or layers of management.
What you’ll be doing
*Taking over and developing a portfolio of circa 80 established clients as part of a structured handover
*Delivering holistic financial planning across retirement and pensions, investments and tax-aware planning
*Conducting client meetings and ongoing reviews, and building long-term relationships with private and HNW clients
*Identifying additional planning opportunities within the existing client bank, always with good client outcomes first
*Winning new clients through referrals, professional introducers, networking and your own connections
*Producing high-quality suitability documentation and keeping accurate, compliant client records
*Contributing to the wider business as it grows towards the next generation of ownership
What you’ll bring
*An appropriate FCA-recognised qualification (Level 4 Diploma or equivalent) and a current Statement of Professional Standing
*A proven track record as a Financial Adviser with a strong client-facing record
*Solid technical knowledge across retirement planning, investments and tax-aware planning, ideally including complex or HNW cases
*Commercial ability: you can build a sustainable pipeline of quality clients, not simply inherit a book
*High standards of compliance, file quality and professional conduct
*The ambition to become a future owner of the business
As with any well-run Chartered firm, all new advisers, including experienced and Chartered advisers, complete the firm’s Training & Competence sign-off before advising independently.
