An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join an ambitious, fast-growing, technology-driven business based in Warrington.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys combining hands-on financial management with commercial insight and strategic decision-making.
Working closely with the Managing Director and senior leadership team, you will take ownership of the finance function, lead and develop an established team and play a key role in shaping the financial performance and continued growth of the business.
The Role:
As Financial Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing financial reporting, strengthening processes and controls, and providing meaningful commercial insight to support business decisions.
This is a highly visible position offering genuine ownership, autonomy and the opportunity to make a significant impact within a growing SME.
Key Responsibilities:
*Lead, support and develop small finance team, providing guidance, mentoring and professional development.
*Oversee the preparation of monthly management accounts, financial reporting and KPIs.
*Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning and financial modelling.
*Provide commercial analysis on business performance, profitability, margins and costs.
*Work closely with Directors to support strategic planning and commercial decision-making.
*Oversee statutory accounts, VAT, corporation tax compliance and R&D tax claims.
*Review and strengthen financial controls, systems and processes to support continued growth.
*Evaluate the financial viability of new products, services and business opportunities.
*Provide clear financial insight and recommendations to senior management and non-financial stakeholders.
Key Requirements:
*Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
*Proven experience in a Financial Controller or similar senior finance position.
*Strong technical accounting knowledge, including management reporting, statutory accounts and financial controls.
*Excellent commercial awareness with experience in budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial analysis.
*Previous experience leading, managing or mentoring a finance team.
*Strong Excel skills and experience using Xero (desirable)
*Confident communicator, comfortable working closely with Directors and senior stakeholders.
*Proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to balance operational finance responsibilities with strategic thinking.
*Experience within a growing SME or fast-paced business environment would be advantageous.
