Job Description:
Full job descriptionAn excellent opportunity has arisen for an accountant to join an established organisation in a broad and influential finance role.
This is a varied position combining finance business partnering, financial reporting, compliance and continuous improvement. Working closely with the Head of Finance and senior stakeholders across the organisation, you will provide the financial insight, challenge and commercial support needed to improve performance and inform key decisions.
It would suit an accountant who enjoys getting beyond the numbers – someone who can build strong relationships with operational teams, challenge constructively and turn financial information into clear, practical recommendations.
The role
You will act as a key finance partner to senior leaders, managers and budget holders, providing high-quality financial information, analysis and advice.
Your responsibilities will include:
*Providing financial insight, analysis and challenge to senior stakeholders and budget holders
*Supporting budgeting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning
*Identifying financial risks and opportunities and recommending appropriate action
*Supporting growth and development initiatives through financial modelling, scenario planning and business cases
*Working with operational managers to improve financial understanding, accountability and performance
*Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, financial sustainability and value for money
*Preparing and reviewing monthly management information and financial reports
*Maintaining strong balance sheet control and ensuring reconciliations are accurate and fully supported
*Coordinating the annual audit process
*Supporting the preparation of annual financial statements and statutory returns
*Overseeing VAT and other regulatory/statutory submissions
*Maintaining the fixed asset register
*Reviewing financial controls, policies and procedures
*Driving improvements to finance systems, reporting and automation
*Supporting and mentoring members of the finance team
*Working across the wider organisation to improve processes and the quality of financial information
About you
You will ideally be a professionally qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a strong combination of technical finance and business partnering experience.
You should have:
*Strong financial reporting and financial control experience
*Excellent balance sheet knowledge
*Experience of budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
*Proven finance business partnering experience
*The confidence to influence and constructively challenge senior stakeholders
*Strong commercial awareness and analytical ability
*Experience of audit and financial compliance
*Advanced Excel skills
*Experience of improving financial systems, processes or reporting
*A track record of identifying efficiencies and implementing improvements
*Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-finance colleagues
*Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
Previous experience of managing, coaching or developing finance team members would also be advantageous.
The opportunity
This is considerably broader than a traditional financial reporting role. You will have visibility across the organisation and the opportunity to influence both financial performance and operational decision-making.
The successful candidate will join an organisation that is looking to continually improve the way finance supports the wider business. There is genuine scope to make an impact across reporting, systems, controls, processes and business partnering.
Excellent holiday entitlement, outstanding pension contributions and access to a salary sacrifice scheme.
