Full job descriptionFinance ManagerSalary: £70,000-£75,000 per annum.
Location: Flexible - North or South regional portfolio
The organisation
Cobalt is recruiting a Finance Manager on behalf of an established organisation operating across facilities management and workplace services.
The business is undergoing a restructure within its workplace solutions division, creating an opportunity for a commercially focused finance professional to influence financial performance and operational decision-making.
With a commitment to employee wellbeing, career development and inclusion, the organisation promotes collaboration across its teams and encourages employees to contribute to business improvement.
The role and responsibilities
This Finance Manager opportunity offers responsibility for a portfolio of approximately 15 facilities management contracts, with a combined value of £45 million.
Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will work alongside regional operations managers, supporting financial performance across planned maintenance, reactive services and project delivery.
Unlike a traditional central finance position, the role requires someone who enjoys working with operational teams, understands contract performance and can translate financial information into commercial decisions.
Key responsibilities include:
* Taking ownership of contract profit and loss performance, including budgeting, forecasting, accruals and month-end reporting.
* Preparing management accounts, analysing variances and identifying opportunities to improve margins, cash flow and cost recovery.
* Partnering with regional operations managers to provide financial insight, challenge assumptions and support operational decisions.
* Overseeing commercial governance across cost-plus, fixed-price, guaranteed maximum price and open-book contracts.
* Monitoring contractual performance measures, including service level agreements and key performance indicators, to identify financial risks and potential penalties.
* Managing financial aspects of contract variations, pricing, approvals, lifecycle expenditure and capital investment.
* Supporting contract mobilisation, demobilisation and financial re-baselining.
* Producing financial reports and performance dashboards for senior management and clients, while maintaining audit readiness.
* Supporting investment decisions, efficiency initiatives and improvements to financial processes.
* Managing and developing a Finance Assistant, while promoting collaboration, inclusion and employee wellbeing.
The skills needed and requirements
We are looking for a qualified accountant who combines financial management expertise with an understanding of commercial operations.
The successful Finance Manager will be comfortable working beyond spreadsheets and financial reporting, building relationships with operational stakeholders and influencing business performance.
To be considered, you will need:
* A professional accounting qualification, specifically CIMA or ACCA.
* Working knowledge of financial management within facilities management, outsourcing, construction or contract-led services.
* An understanding of contract profitability, commercial governance, budgeting and forecasting.
* Experience partnering with operational stakeholders and translating financial information into commercial recommendations.
* The ability to challenge constructively, manage competing priorities and identify opportunities for business improvement.
* A willingness to travel to contract sites across the relevant regional portfolio to maintain relationships with operational teams and clients.
Experience working across multiple contracts or operational business units would be particularly relevant, as would exposure to different commercial contract structures.
The organisation values candidates who can demonstrate sound commercial judgement, adaptability and a collaborative approach.
Why consider this opportunity?
This Finance Manager position offers the chance to take ownership of a substantial contract portfolio while contributing directly to the performance of a business undergoing organisational change.
With exposure to senior stakeholders, regional operations teams and commercial decision-making, the position provides an opportunity to influence outcomes beyond traditional financial reporting.
The business also places importance on employee wellbeing, inclusion and professional development.
