Ongoing Temporary Assignment
A busy London Local Authority is seeking an experienced Debt Recovery & Enforcement Officer to join their revenues team on an ongoing temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a debt recovery professional with local government experience to play a key role in maximising income collection and protecting public funds.
The Role
You will be responsible for recovering and enforcing a range of debts on behalf of the Council, including Council Tax, NEC Sundry Debts (Oracle Advanced Collections) and other debt recovery portfolios. You will ensure all recovery action is carried out fairly, efficiently and in line with legislation, case law and local policies.
Key Responsibilities
*Recover outstanding debts across a range of revenue streams.
*Manage Council Tax and sundry debt recovery cases from initial recovery through to enforcement.
*Assess cases and determine appropriate recovery action.
*Liaise with customers, courts, enforcement agents and internal stakeholders.
*Maintain accurate case records and documentation.
*Provide professional advice and support to customers while balancing the Council’s duty to collect revenue.
*Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation, case law and the Council’s Debt Recovery Policy.
About You
To be successful, you will have:
*Previous experience in a Debt Recovery, Revenues or Enforcement Officer position, ideally within a local authority.
*Knowledge of Council Tax recovery and/or sundry debt recovery processes.
*Experience of County Court and/or Magistrates’ Court procedures.
*Strong communication, negotiation and customer service skills.
*Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities.
*Experience using debt recovery systems, ideally NEC/Oracle Advanced Collections.
Working Arrangements
*Hybrid working model.
*Minimum 2 days per week in the office based in Wembley.
*Additional office attendance may be required to meet service needs.
