Full job descriptionThe company
New Avenues is partnering with a specialist music accountancy services business to recruit a Finance Assistant. With the team growing, this is an opportunity to join a warm, welcoming group of people who will support your development and help you build a long-term career.
Working with bands, labels, distributors and musicians, the business looks after the finances behind the music. From day-to-day bookkeeping to monthly accounts and artist budgets, the team understands the industry and helps clients stay on top of their finances.
You’ll have experienced colleagues to learn from and people who are happy to answer questions. As the team grows, there will be opportunities to take on more responsibility and develop your role.
The HQ is based in London, but the role is working remotely.
The role
Working closely with the Finance Manager, you’ll start with transactional accounting, gaining hands-on experience across accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR) and reconciliations.
Your responsibilities will initially include:
*Supporting accounts payable, processing supplier invoices and maintaining the purchase ledger.
*Supporting accounts receivable, raising sales invoices and maintaining the sales ledger.
*Checking and posting employee expenses.
*Posting bank transactions and completing bank and credit card reconciliations.
*Reconciling sales information and investigating discrepancies.
*Reviewing aged debt and following up overdue payments.
*Assisting with VAT returns and maintaining accurate accounting records.
As your knowledge and confidence develop, you’ll get involved in month-end processes and monthly management accounts, progressing towards wider accounts preparation responsibilities. It’s an opportunity to build strong foundations while working towards becoming an Assistant Accountant.
The candidate
You’ve started building your accounting knowledge. Now you’re looking for somewhere to take it further, with people who will invest time in helping you grow.
You’ll bring:
*A minimum of a years’ experience in accounting or finance.
*A love for music.
*A foundation in double-entry bookkeeping, with an understanding of AP and AR.
*Confidence using Excel, including lookups and pivot tables.
*An eye for detail and the curiosity to work out why something doesn’t reconcile.
*Good organisation, helping you stay on top of deadlines across different client accounts.
*Clear communication skills and a willingness to ask questions as you learn.
Bring your accounting foundations and the ambition to build on them, and you’ll find a welcoming team ready to support your next step. With clients whose music might already be on your playlist, there’s plenty to feel excited about.
