Job Description:
Full job descriptionYour new company
This is an opportunity to join an established independent accountancy and advisory firm with a significant presence across Scotland and a specialist Financial Services audit offering.
The firm works with organisations across a broad range of sectors, but this opportunity sits specifically within its Financial Services team, where there is a strong focus on the wealth and asset management market. The team’s work covers investment trusts, venture capital trusts, wealth and asset managers and a range of investment fund structures.
For an auditor looking to move into, or build further experience within, Financial Services, the attraction is the opportunity to develop a more defined sector specialism. Rather than remaining within a broad general audit portfolio, you will be working in an environment where you can build your understanding of investment businesses, funds and the wider asset and wealth management sector.
The position can be based in Glasgow or Edinburgh, with flexibility on location within Scotland.
Your new role
As a Financial Services Audit Senior, you will have a key role in delivering audits from the early planning stages through to completion, working closely with managers while taking greater ownership of your own assignments.
The role will give you exposure to a specialist portfolio across the wealth, asset management and investment market. This can include listed investment trusts, venture capital trusts, wealth and asset managers, alongside fund structures such as OEICs, unit trusts, private equity and property funds.
Day to day, you will be trusted to keep assignments moving, understand where the key audit issues sit and make sure these are raised with the Audit Manager at the appropriate point. You will have regular contact with clients throughout assignments, giving you the opportunity to develop confidence in managing those relationships rather than focusing solely on the technical completion of audit work.
You will also start to take more responsibility for how work is delivered across the wider audit team. This includes coordinating work with more junior colleagues, helping them through more challenging areas and reviewing progress to make sure assignments remain on track.
There is still plenty of hands-on audit work involved, but this is a role where you can begin to develop the wider skills expected as you become more senior, including judgement, delegation, client communication and ownership of the audit process.
What you’ll need to succeed
*Experience relevant to an Audit Senior position, with the ability to take responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of audit work.
*Strong organisational skills and a proactive approach to managing your workload, deadlines and audit requirements.
*The ability to build effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and junior team members.
*Strong communication skills, including the confidence to raise issues appropriately and keep relevant stakeholders informed.
*The ability to supervise, support and provide guidance to Audit Assistants.
*A commitment to taking ownership of your work and professional learning.
*A CA or equivalent professional accountancy qualification. The vacancy information confirms that part-qualified candidates may also be considered depending on their experience.
*Financial Services audit experience, particularly within wealth management, asset management, investment funds or listed investment products, would provide relevant background for the team’s specialist client work.
What you’ll get in return
You will receive a competitive salary alongside the opportunity to develop your audit career within a specialist Financial Services environment.
The real attraction of the position is the nature of the work. If you have built a solid grounding in audit but want to develop a clearer sector specialism, the role provides exposure to the wealth and asset management market and a range of investment structures.
Equally, if you are already working within Financial Services audit, the position offers the opportunity to continue developing that experience within an independent accountancy and advisory firm, working across both the technical and client-facing aspects of assignments.
For someone approaching or already operating at Senior level, there is also the chance to build experience beyond completing individual sections of an audit. You will have responsibility for coordinating work, supporting junior colleagues, communicating directly with clients and developing the judgement required to recognise and escalate issues throughout an assignment.
