Make a Difference in Your Community
Our local authority client based in Reading is seeking a dedicated and customer-focused Energy Support Officer to join their Housing and Energy Support Team on an ongoing temporary basis. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to directly support residents in reducing energy costs, improving energy efficiency, and addressing issues associated with fuel poverty, damp and mould within council housing stock.
If you have a passion for helping people, strong communication skills, and an interest in energy efficiency and housing support services, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
Reporting to the Housing and Energy Support Team Leader, you will provide practical advice and support to residents, helping them to heat their homes more affordably and efficiently while reducing energy consumption and associated costs.
The role involves carrying out home visits across the borough, assessing household energy efficiency, supporting vulnerable residents, and delivering advice and guidance on energy-saving measures and damp and mould prevention.
Key Responsibilities
*Undertake home visits to assess the energy efficiency of properties and identify opportunities for improvement.
*Provide tailored energy advice and guidance to residents to help reduce energy consumption and lower household bills.
*Identify the need for energy conservation measures and refer residents where works fall outside the scope of the project.
*Support residents affected by damp and mould issues, providing practical guidance and advice.
*Liaise and negotiate with energy suppliers on behalf of residents where additional support is required.
*Carry out follow-up visits and ongoing casework as necessary.
*Prepare correspondence and written communications including letters and resident updates.
*Maintain accurate records and case notes.
*Contribute to the successful delivery of fuel poverty and energy efficiency projects across the borough.
What We’re Looking For
*Experience working within housing, customer services, community support, energy advice, welfare support, or a similar resident-focused environment.
*Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build rapport with a diverse range of residents.
*Ability to manage a caseload and prioritise workload effectively.
*Confident undertaking home visits and working independently in the community.
*Good administrative and IT skills.
*Understanding of energy efficiency, fuel poverty, housing issues, or sustainability initiatives would be advantageous.
*Empathetic, proactive, and solution-focused approach.
This is a hybrid role where officers are expected to undertake resident visits daily. Administrative duties, reporting, and case management can be completed remotely when appropriate.
Requirements
*Basic DBS Check (required prior to commencement).
*Ability to travel across the Reading area to undertake home visits.
*Immediate availability is highly desirable.
