A brand-new opportunity!
Permanent | Central Oxford | Onsite
£45,000-£50,000 + Benefits
Are you an experienced Accountant who enjoys taking ownership, getting involved in the detail and being a key part of a close-knit team?
We’re exclusively partnering with an exciting, entrepreneurial investment business based in central Oxford, which is creating a brand-new position within its growing finance function.
Working closely with the Financial Controller and Managing Partner, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day accounting across multiple companies and investment entities. It’s a varied, hands-on role offering plenty of autonomy, exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to make the position your own.
About the Business
Our client is a specialist investment business focused on the premium wine industry. Led by experienced operators from the consumer, retail, finance and investment sectors, the business invests in and actively supports companies operating within the global premium wine trade.
With ambitious plans and an exciting future ahead, they’re building a central team to support their continued growth.
This is a small, professional and entrepreneurial environment where people work closely together, take pride in what they do and value honesty, integrity and a straightforward approach.
You don’t need previous experience in the wine industry - just a genuine interest in being part of a growing business and a team where everyone makes a difference.
The Role
This is a broad and varied accounting position, combining day-to-day transactional responsibilities with management accounting and wider company administration.
You’ll take ownership of the accounting records across multiple entities, ensuring everything is accurate, well organised and completed to a high standard. You’ll also work closely with the external accountants and have regular interaction with senior members of the business.
Your responsibilities will include:
*Maintaining bookkeeping and accounting records across multiple companies.
*Preparing monthly management accounts.
*Managing sales invoices, purchase invoices and expenses.
*Supporting VAT, PAYE and corporation tax requirements.
*Processing payroll.
*Maintaining fixed asset records.
*Supporting statutory accounts, audits and year-end processes alongside the external accountancy firm.
*Assisting with company administration, including board minutes and corporate filings.
*Providing accurate financial information and supporting analysis to the Financial Controller and Managing Partner.
It’s a role for someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable balancing routine responsibilities with more analytical work and takes real pride in getting things right.
About You
We’re looking for an established Accountant with strong practical experience and the confidence to take ownership of a broad accounting remit.
You’ll ideally bring:
*Around 10+ years’ experience in an accounting role.
*Strong experience of bookkeeping and accounting for UK companies.
*A thorough understanding of VAT, PAYE and corporation tax.
*Experience preparing management accounts.
*Excellent organisation and attention to detail.
*A high level of integrity, discretion and trustworthiness.
*The ability to work independently, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
*A hands-on approach and the flexibility to get involved wherever needed.
ACA, ACCA or an equivalent qualification would be advantageous, but candidates qualified by experience will absolutely be considered.
Experience with Xero would be beneficial, as would exposure to fund or asset management, financial services or legal contracts and agreements.
What’s on Offer?
*Salary of £45,000-£50,000 FTE.
*Workplace pension.
*Private healthcare.
*A newly created position with genuine ownership and responsibility.
*Direct exposure to senior leadership.
*A small, friendly and professional working environment.
*The opportunity to become a trusted and valued part of a growing business.
*Four or five days per week considered for the right person.
The role is based in central Oxford, close to the train station, and is primarily office-based.
The Opportunity
This isn’t about joining a large corporate finance department or chasing the next job title. It’s about finding a position where you can use your experience, take ownership and become an important part of the business for the long term.
If you’re an experienced Accountant who enjoys being hands-on, values autonomy and would love to join a growing business where your contribution genuinely matters, we’d love to hear from you.
