Duration: 12 months
Pay Rate: £50.00 - £60.00 per hour
Working Pattern: Hybrid (2 days remote, 3 days office-based)

We are seeking an experienced UK Statutory Reporting Accountant to join a fast-paced finance function and play a key role in the delivery of statutory reporting, financial accounting, and external audit activities across a portfolio of large UK entities.

The successful candidate will work closely with external auditors, finance teams, and senior stakeholders to ensure the timely preparation and submission of statutory accounts in compliance with UK GAAP (FRS 102). This role requires excellent technical accounting knowledge, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Statutory Reporting & Audit:
* Lead and coordinate the statutory audit process for multiple UK entities.
* Prepare, review, and complete statutory accounts and supporting disclosures in accordance with FRS 102 requirements.
* Prepare and review audit packs and supporting schedules ahead of external audits.
* Identify and calculate statutory adjustments required when converting from US GAAP to UK GAAP.
* Act as a key point of contact for external auditors, ensuring efficient resolution of audit queries.
* Work closely with finance teams to provide guidance on accounting treatments, reporting requirements, and technical accounting matters.
* Proactively identify reporting issues, ensuring they are escalated and resolved within agreed timelines.

Technical Accounting:
* Support the preparation of management papers and technical accounting assessments.
* Conduct analysis of complex or judgemental accounting transactions.
* Assist with the implementation and adoption of new accounting standards and reporting requirements.
* Maintain awareness of developments in statutory reporting, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Financial Reporting & Compliance:
* Complete statistical and financial surveys, including submissions to relevant regulatory bodies.
* Review and enhance statutory reporting processes, controls, and procedures to drive efficiency and maintain compliance.
* Support statutory audit activities across other European entities when required.
* Assist with transfer pricing activities and related financial analysis.
* Prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis for senior finance leadership.

Qualifications & Experience Required

Essential
* Fully qualified accountant (ICAS, ACCA, ACA, CIMA or equivalent).
* Proven experience within a statutory reporting or financial reporting environment.
* Strong external audit experience, either in practice or industry.
* Experience preparing and reviewing statutory accounts under UK GAAP (FRS 102).
* Ability to interpret and apply accounting and regulatory guidance.
* Demonstrated experience improving financial reporting processes and controls.
* Experience working within large or complex organisations.

Desirable
* Experience within the energy, oil & gas, or wider engineering sector.
* Exposure to multi-national group reporting structures.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

Essential
* Strong knowledge of UK GAAP (FRS 102) and US GAAP.
* Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
* Ability to manage workload effectively and consistently meet deadlines.
* Excellent attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy.
* Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Desirable
* Knowledge of IFRS.
* Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements and controls.
* Experience using statutory accounts production software (e.g. Caseware or similar).
* Exposure to Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) systems and reporting tools.
