Job Description:
Full job descriptionSenior Systems Engineer - Software
Up to £60,000
Dorset
Permanent
An opportunity is available for a Senior Systems Engineer to contribute to complex engineering projects involving software-based systems.
This is a Systems Engineering position rather than a software development role. You will help define system requirements and technical solutions, consider how different parts of a system work together, and support the activities needed to confirm that the complete solution performs as intended.
Working with technical teams and external stakeholders, you will contribute across the engineering lifecycle, from early design through integration and testing to ongoing support. The work is carried out in a safety- and quality-conscious environment. Occasional travel may be required, and applicants must be eligible to obtain the security clearance required for the position.
Key Responsibilities:
*Contribute to the design, integration and ongoing support of complex software-based systems.
*Develop, review and maintain system requirements, ensuring they are clear, achievable and traceable.
*Help define system structures and how hardware, software and other elements interact.
*Work with engineering colleagues, customers and suppliers to understand technical needs and resolve issues.
*Support integration activities and plan, carry out and document system-level testing.
*Review test results and contribute to verification and validation activities.
*Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, test procedures and reports.
*Contribute to technical reviews, project delivery and the application of engineering standards.
*Support quality, safety and continuous improvement throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Key Skills
*Experience in a Systems Engineering role, ideally involving complex or software-based systems.
*Knowledge of system design, integration, verification and validation.
*Experience defining and managing system requirements, including traceability.
*Understanding of software-intensive systems, system architecture and software lifecycle principles.
*Experience developing, conducting or documenting system-level tests.
*Understanding of system interfaces, modular design and open architecture principles.
*Confidence working with customers, technical teams, suppliers and other stakeholders.
*A relevant degree or equivalent professional experience.
Desirable Experience
*Experience in aerospace, defence or another regulated engineering environment.
*Knowledge of safety-critical systems, airworthiness requirements or relevant industry standards.
*Familiarity with RF, radar, communications or electronic warfare.
*A relevant postgraduate qualification or professional registration (CEng/IEng).
What’s on Offer
*Salary up to £60,000.
*Permanent, full-time position.
*Dorset location.
*DCS Recruitment is an equal opportunities employer.
