Credit Control Manager
This is a standalone credit control role where you run the whole cash process yourself, from the contracts and payment terms at the start to the legal route at the end. It’s hands-on, with no team to manage, and once you’re settled in you’ll agree payment plans and settlements within your own sign-off levels, with very few decisions going upwards. If you want real ownership and real variety, this is the one.
You’ll be chasing individual payers as well as businesses, so no two conversations are the same. They need someone who has already been trusted to make the call: agreeing payment plans, deciding when an account goes to solicitors and seeing the case through. If you’re a credit manager or senior credit controller who likes being hands-on, this was written for you.
What You Will Be Doing
*Owning your own caseload from the first missed payment through to payment received or legal recovery
*Agreeing payment plans and settlements yourself within your sign-off levels, weighing up whether a lower amount now beats a plan that runs for years
*Keeping a close eye on payment terms and reviewing contracts, so you know exactly what the business can enforce
*Chasing by phone, email and letter, speaking to individual payers as well as businesses, firm and fair every time
*Working through complex disputes where the customer disagrees with the amount or the contract, explaining the facts calmly and clearly
*Deciding when an account is ready for legal, checking that every touch point is complete and the paperwork is there
*Building the case file, knowing which documents are needed and who to ask for them, and getting the solicitors moving even when a piece of paperwork is still on its way
*Liaising directly with solicitors on timeframes and next steps, and understanding what comes after: the letter before action, a court claim, then enforcement routes such as charging orders, attachment of earnings or a writ
*Working with an admin colleague who collates documents for you, while you decide what is missing and what happens next
*Reporting on aged debt, payment arrangements and escalated cases so decisions can be made quickly
What We Need From You
*Genuine senior-level credit control experience: you have owned your own caseload and made decisions yourself, rather than referring accounts upwards for direction
*Experience of agreeing payment plans and settlements, and the commercial confidence to judge when a lower amount now is the right call
*Hands-on experience of taking accounts through legal recovery, including deciding when to escalate and working with solicitors afterwards
*A good understanding of what happens next: letter before action, court claims, judgments and enforcement such as charging orders, attachment of earnings or a writ
*Experience of chasing individuals as well as businesses, and the confidence to hold a calm, factual conversation when someone disagrees
*A self-starter who works on their own initiative, knows where to find information and who to ask, and doesn’t need guidance on every account
*Strong Excel and reporting skills, comfortable pulling numbers together and spotting what they are telling you
*Able to work full time on site, and either immediately available or on a short notice period, as they want the right person in as soon as possible
What’s in it for you
*On-site parking
*Real autonomy: training at the start, then your own sign-off levels and very few referrals
*A genuinely varied role, from contracts and payment terms through to legal recovery
*Potential for the role to become permanent at a later date
If this sounds like the credit control role you’ve been waiting for and you think you’d fit, we’d love to hear from you.
