Rate: Up to £500 per day (umbrella inside IR35), or £95k pa -depending on experience
Contract options: Day rate or fixed-term contract
Working pattern: Hybrid, 2 days per week in the office
The Opportunity
A fast-growing, technology-led business is looking for an experienced Senior interim finance business partner to take charge of its cost and planning agenda. With a large in-house technology team, this role sits right at the heart of how that investment is forecast, accounted for and challenged.
This is a hands-on assignment where you’ll take ownership of the capitalisation of internal development costs, build the finance models that show where resource is being deployed and what it delivers, and work with senior leaders to plan and control spend across the business.
What you must bring
*A technology background: you’ve worked in a tech-led, digital or software business, or in the finance team supporting a large technology function, and you understand how a tech cost base is made up (delivery teams, engineering headcount, contractors, tooling and product roadmaps).
*Direct experience of managing the capitalisation of internal staff costs: you’ve owned the process. You know the accounting standards, how developer time is captured and allocated, and how it holds up under audit. We need someone who can pick up the existing process from day one and make it quicker, more accurate and less manual.
What You’ll Be Doing
*Capitalisation of internal development costs: Take ownership of the accounting for capitalised staff time, refining the current process and spotting where AI or automation can help.
*Technology investment and resource planning: Build and maintain models covering resource needs, delivery timelines, return on investment by team and capital spend, with regular updates for senior technology and finance leaders.
*Headcount and operating model planning: Work with People leadership on workforce planning, resourcing and the related forecasts.
*Budgeting and reporting: Run budgets, forecasts and month-end reporting for support functions.
*Business planning: Contribute to budgets, reforecasts and long-range plans, testing assumptions and keeping plans realistic.
*Stakeholder partnering: Work with senior function heads to agree priorities, manage expectations, show progress and push back constructively where needed.
*Efficiency: Evaluate operational initiatives, covering savings, investment, resource implications, timescales and risks.
*Team development: Support and coach less experienced colleagues.
What Else We’re Looking For
*Proven FP&A, cost management or senior finance business partnering experience plus being hands on.
*Advanced Excel and a track record of building and maintaining complex financial models.
*Experience of an ERP and an FP&A system (cloud based FP&A tools a bonus)
*The ability to turn complex cost models into clear, commercially focused stories for non-finance leaders.
*Resilience and confidence in a fast-moving, changing environment
*A finance qualification (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) is advantageous.
If you’re an experienced interim finance professional with a technology background and hands-on capitalisation experience, available at short notice, please submit your CV.
