Full job description Information Communications Technician – Level 3 Apprenticeship
Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire
Start your career in IT with ercol. For over 100 years, we have been designing and making high-quality furniture, combining craftsmanship with modern manufacturing at our Buckinghamshire factory and sourcing products from around the world. Behind our furniture is the technology that keeps our business connected—and you could help support it.
Are you interested in technology, enjoy solving problems and keen to turn that interest into a career? We are looking for an Information Communications Technician Apprentice to join ercol and help deliver effective, reliable IT support across the business.
Working alongside our IT Manager, you will gain hands-on experience of IT systems, networks and user support, developing your skills as you contribute to the day-to-day running and improvement of our IT service.
You will work towards the Information Communications Technician Level 3 apprenticeship, alongside Microsoft qualifications, combining practical workplace experience with learning to build your technical knowledge and confidence.
Your Role
You will learn how to support the people and technology that keep ercol running. With guidance from the IT Manager, you will help install, maintain and monitor our IT hardware, software and network, developing an understanding of system availability, security and effective customer support.
What You Will Learn and Do
*Work alongside the IT Manager, building your knowledge and taking on more responsibility as your skills develop.
*Learn to administer Microsoft 365 and contribute to its ongoing development within the business.
*Assist with the administration and maintenance of server hardware and software, including directory services, operating systems and databases.
*Help maintain the company network, including network switches and Wi-Fi access points.
*Learn to create, update and maintain user accounts, email accounts and access permissions for local and remote working.
*Respond to IT enquiries and service desk tickets, helping users resolve problems and keeping colleagues and external contacts informed.
*Help issue and recover company equipment, including laptops and smartphones.
*Maintain accurate IT records and documentation.
*Follow company policies and learn good practice in IT support and system security.
*Handle information responsibly, maintaining confidentiality and discretion.
*Support the IT team with day-to-day administration and general support tasks.
*Bring a positive, flexible approach to learning and working with others.
What We Are Looking For
*Previous IT experience is helpful, but not essential. We are looking for enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
*A genuine interest in technology and the motivation to build a career in IT.
Skills
*A friendly, professional approach to helping others, including over the telephone.
*Good written and verbal communication skills, with a willingness to ask questions and listen.
*The ability to explain information clearly and work with colleagues and external contacts with different levels of technical knowledge.
*An organised approach to tasks and a willingness to learn how to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
*Self-motivation, initiative and the judgement to ask for support when needed.
*The ability to work independently on agreed tasks and contribute as part of a team.
*Good numerical and problem-solving skills, with familiarity using computers, spreadsheets and Microsoft applications.
