Job Description:
Join the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and you’ll deliver for the UK internationally.
That could mean helping us promote Britain and our values, building strategic partnerships, protecting our interests, or supporting Britons abroad. It’s a diverse challenge that will put you at the centre of world events, working alongside around 17,300 people in our global network of offices, bringing a completely unique perspective of personal and professional pride.

Your role with us
We’re currently looking to recruit two Senior Internal Auditors to join the department responsible for delivering our annual internal audits. These include all aspects of the FCDO’s operations and risks, covering overseas missions, corporate systems, policy departments and development programmes. Leading individual assignments in both the UK and the overseas network, you’ll act as a motivating team leader as you take responsibility for the assignments and report your findings in high quality reviews.
Evaluating high risk areas and control systems for each review, and recommending improvements in line with public sector internal audit standards, you’ll contribute to the wider work of the department through active participation in the achievement of our goals and the development of technical knowledge and resources. Building effective working relationships with senior stakeholders and helping to support and develop junior staff, you’ll also lead on methodology and departmental improvement priorities and internal processes.
Who we’re looking for
With a professional internal audit qualification or an equivalent professional qualification with direct relevance to internal audit (i.e. ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA or other), you’ll be comfortable making independent judgements in a complex operating environment. We’ll expect you to have experience of working on both external or internal audits and delivering assurance and consultancy engagements to clients, and of planning engagements, analysing risks and communicating with senior stakeholders. It’s important that you’re ready to lead and motivate a small team by providing constructive guidance, advice and challenge, and you should also have a track record of delivering to tight deadlines.
Please note that we’ll accept your application if you’re part way through the completion of a qualification but also have experience of leading internal audit engagements. There is an expectation that any part-qualified successful candidate will be fully qualified within 12 months of starting with the FCDO.
We encourage applications from all communities, because we want to reflect the very best of 21st century Britain. Everyone here gets the support to develop their skills and capabilities as well as a range of benefits that will help you to make the most of life in and out of work. You must be a British Citizen at the time of your application, and attain Developed Vetting security clearance. For more information about this process, click the Apply link.
Use your talent and experience to shape our nation’s future, and deliver tangible improvements to millions of lives, including your own.
You will be required to work in line with FCDO policies on hybrid working, with a minimum of 60% of your time in the office.
